LEGACY OF THE APP WORLD TOUR

The APP World Tour has been crowning Professional World Champions for the sport of Stand Up Paddling since 2010 when it officially launched the World Championship Tour. It has produced World Tour events across 6 Continents and nurtured talent from across all 4 corners of the World in the creation of a dynamic sports property that is truly global.

Timeline:

2009: Launch of the concept for World Tour with Contenders Exhibition, a roving Stand Up Paddlesurfing adventure in Tahiti aboard Moorings Yachts

2010: Launch of Stand Up World Surfing Tour with events in Oahu, France, Tahiti, Brazil and the Big Island. First World Champion for the sport of Stand Up Paddling crowned in the form of Kai Lenny from Maui

2011: Addition of California as a stop on Tour at Huntington Beach and launch of Racing Series with inaugural Turtle Bay Race event (Men & Women) and first event of the 2012 season in Fiji

2012: Full World Championship season for both SUP Surfing & SUP Racing, with crowning of World Champions for both Surfing and Racing. Introduction of a unique, roving Location X concept that is 100% waterbased in the British Virgin Islands

2013: Racing World Tour expands dramatically, with 10 events across the globe, Women’s World Surfing Tour is launched and first Women’s Surfing World Champion is crowned. World Tour hits the Middle East with a ground breaking “All Stars” exhibition event in a Wave Pool

2014: Continued expansion for both the World Surfing & Racing Tours, together with the launch of the European Cup and a new Location X roving exhibition event in Morocco

2015: Return to Tahiti after 2 years off the schedule and continued legacy in Hawaii and California for Surfing, while Racing World Tour kicks off in Barcelona and presence in Asia grows with flagship Japanese event

2016: Spectacular conditions for the 7th annual Sunset Beach Pro in Hawaii, and introduction of a Maui Race event providing spectacular World Championship Tour Racing. Introduction of the all new Red Bull Heavy Water Racing concept in large surf in a unique partnership between the APP World Tour and Red Bull

2017: Re-branding of the Tour into one unified property that celebrates both Surfing and Racing as the APP World Tour. World Champions are crowned for each discipline, but also now for the Overall Title across Surfing and Racing for both Men and Women. Red Bull Heavy Water goes XXL

2018: Shifting of focus toward the World’s major Cities and the introduction of the @citypaddlefestivals concept that brings the World’s best to these major Cities and celebrates the sport with a true mass participation, music and entertainment in the creation of a real unique urban beach lifestyle festival. Schedule brings the Tour to London, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Gran Canaria, with a mixture of flat water racing in iconic locations, surf and extreme heavy water racing  to surfing in unique locations across the globe.
