Opening Rounds provide great action in challenging conditions here at the Gran Canaria Pro-Am

The Opening Round of competition saw impressive performances in the challenging conditions on offer at El Cicer, with the cream still rising to the top.

Out of the gates, Current World #1 Poenaiki Raioha from Tahiti posted one of the highest scores of the day, along with Wellington Reis from Brazil, a strong performance from the US talent Daniel Hughes and the welcomed return of Mo Freitas from Hawaii.

Finishing off the round, Luiz Diniz continued to post high scores, making his presence felt here in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while France's Benoit Carpentier, relegated to the repechage round by Mo Freitas, put on an impressive display to make his way back into Round 3.

Day 1 saw the return of the Red Bull Expression Session, with 16 Men, 7 Women and 7 U18 kids stepping up to push the limits in difficult conditions.

It was nonetheless an impressive showcase, as the athletes dug deep to highlight progression in the challenging conditions.

In the Men's division, it was the high flyer Luiz Diniz from Brazil who stole the show, with a series of flawless air reverses, while in the Women, it was Fiona Wylde, who took top honors, navigating the challening line up to great effect. In the Juniors, it was the young Spanish hopeful Juan de Los Reyes who took the win, with an extremely strong field of Juniors in attendance.
